Welcome to Wanlockhead, Scotland’s Highest Village set within the beautiful Dumfries and Galloway, with it’s rolling hills and stunning views. The village sits at 1531ft above sea level and is fortunate to have the Southern Upland Way pass through the village, making it a popular destination for walking or just for relaxing and taking in the views. The village also has a swimming pool which is accessible to hire if you’re looking for a relaxing swim all to yourselves.

Our 3 traditional cottage’s sit within the village and can accommodate up to 6 people in No.3 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage & No.1/2 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage and 5 people in Rowan Cottage (pets are welcome).
We offer several holiday options to suit your needs and are happy to offer stays whether it’s for 1 night, a few days, a long weekend or a couple of weeks. To make your stay memorable, we are happy to accommodate your needs whatever they are.
Step back in time and visit the Museum of Lead Mining where you can see how the miners lived through the ages, then go down the only underground mine in Scotland or have a go at gold panning yourself.
A Warm Welcome
The village pub, The Wanlockhead Inn is the place to go if you’re looking for a night off from cooking the pub offers delicious homecooked food and a good stock of beers, as well as a warm welcome by the log fire after a walk.
Next to Wanlockhead and a short walk leads you to the next village of Leadhills with its friendly local shop which supplies most items, and the local pub The Hopetoun Arms Hotel if your wanting good food, a pint and a warm welcome.
Leadhills also home to Scotland’s highest 18-hole golf course and a narrow gauge railway that runs in between Leadhills and Wanlockhead.
